Our generation have things easily as compare to years ago, natural flowers, herbs were being use to treat illness unlike today. Even though we no longer need to have the knowledge of identify these herbs now, it does not mean it will not be useful.

Today, we will continue to focus on certain orchids that were once being use for its therapeutic purposes.

Bulbophyllum reptans (Lindl.) Lindl. ex Wall.
Chinese name: Fushengshidou Lan; Baihuashidou Lan; Shidou Lan
Chinese medicinal name: Shilianzi

This plant will benefits the lungs and stomach as it clears phlegm, improves appetite, helps digestion, relieves dry throat and speeds up recovery from soft tissue trauma and fractures.


Bulbophyllum retusiusculum Rchb. f.
Chinese name: Yellow Comb Orchid in Taiwan
Thai name: Ma tak khok

The whole plant was being used for tonic in Thailand.


Bulbophyllum rufinum Reichb. f.
Thai names: Ma tak khok, Ueang kip ma ya, hang krarok, om hin

Similarly, this entire plant was being used for tonic in Thailand but it can also treat asthma.



Bulbophyllum sterile (Lam.) Suresh

Tubers of this orchid are eaten for good health by the Valmikis tribe of Visakhapatnam district. 


Bulbophyllum umbellatum Lindl.

It was used as swarna jivanti in Ayurvedic preparations and the roots of the orchid were said to promote longevity.
